| Coretta Scott King |
Established in 1969. The medal was designed to
commemorate the life and work of the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and
to honor Mrs. Coretta Scott King for her courage and determination in
continuing to work for peace and world brotherhood. This award is
presented annually to an African American author and an illustrator for an
outstanding inspirational and educational contribution published during
the previous year. |

| Pura Belpre' |
Awarded every two years by the Association for
Library Service to Children (ALSC) and the National Association to Promote
Library Services to the Spanish Speaking (REFORMA). Honors Latino
writers and illustrators whose work best portray, affirms and celebrates
the Latino cultural experience in a work of literature for youth.
Named in honor of Pura Belpre', the first Latina librarian of the New York
